History
Youth Sailing Resources was born out a series of conversations with Jim McKie and Pat O'Leary while attending a Sea Scout training program and which pointed out the need to insure the sailboats to support the Sea Scout program. The decision was made to not only support Sea Scouts, but to provide sailing opportunities for area youth with an emphasis on inner city youth.
With a generous ongoing donation by Jeff Davis and legal help from Jim Anderson, the organization got off the ground.
Early years were focused on providing support for Ship 248 Sea Scouts, but also an effort was made to connect with other area youth.
YSR now provides sailing experience for area youth and some inner city youth programs through both a weekly sailing opportunity, and scheduled special events for youth programs.
The organization has an active board of nine volunteers, as well as several other dedicated volunteers who help to provide the sailing experiences for the youth.
